It’s a fantastic week for the food allergy community as many users on Facebook and even the Empire State Building are turning teal this week to create awareness for the millions of Americans living with food allergies. Teal ribbons abound at doctor’s offices and Sarah Jessica Parker was talking about a partnership with Mylan on a national news show. We are on a mission to create awareness of food allergies and compassion toward those who have them.
As always, my personal mission includes spreading awareness about OIT. It has literally changed the lives of every member of my family. My shy, somewhat anti-social little boy who struggled in group activities and academics was awarded Most Improved Player from his baseball team last week and next week will receive the Principal’s Award at school for his drastic improvements in reading this year, as well as his overall persistence and attitude. Upon learning this, my husband said, “You know this is because of OIT.” I do know this is true. Freedom from food allergies has been revolutionary for him.
In order for me to initiate a conversation about OIT, I open a little shop with some original designs and am hosting and selling tees and tanks from it. I’d love it if you check them out. Help me spread the OIT love!
